For the first time, MASAF organized A Day without Hunger, also known as Journée Sans Faim (JSF) in Malaysia in collaboration with Dapur Jalanan Kuala Lumpur. Dapur Jalanan Kuala Lumpur is an NGO who is actively providing weekly soup kitchen and feeding the needy and homeless at Jalan Panggung.
On that day itself, 33 MASAF volunteers were divided into several working groups. Eight of us were in cleaning dishes; while six of us had to take care of the general cleanliness of Jalan Panggung site; and, ten of us were at the food and drinks tables; the remaining had to look after the boxes, tables and controlling the crowd.
Curry Mee, Mushroom Soup and Baguette were served to 120 homeless. We were pleased to see their happy faces. They did not complain of what we had given to them. It was a reflection time for most of the volunteers as this was their first time joining a soup kitchen.
MASAF would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation for all the hard work and dedication provided by the volunteers, MASAF, Dapur Jalanan KL and everyone who supported this event. At the same time, we would like to express our sincere thanks to our donors, we had collected RM776 and €10 for this year JSF Kuala Lumpur. Without your support, MASAF probably won’t be able to organize our first JSF KL.
For the donors’ information, we used entirely this money to buy the toiletries packs for the homeless. Every homeless received a bar of soap, a toothbrush and a toothpaste. It would be great if MASAF could continue organizing JSF in Malaysia every year so that we can contribute to the needy Malaysians.
