Q : Why did you choose to do your study in this city and how did it differ from your expectations?

Jeannie : It’s one of the most prestigious écoles for prepa chimie.
Farah Syafiqah : I wanted to live in a big city for my final 3 years in France, also a city that’s very ‘international’ and I heard that Lille is such a good ville étudiante. It met my expectations!! 🙂

Q : What do you like and dislike about this city?

Jeannie : What I like about Lille are the transportation, the local food, variety of shops and commercial centres, the flaws of the city centre, etc while what I dislike is the foul weather
Farah Syafiqah : The beautiful environment, scenery, friendly people. However, it’s quite unsafe to travel alone at night since I heard a lot of robberies etc..

Q : What were the difficulties that you faced here? How did you overcome them?

Jeannie : So far no difficulties.
Farah Syafiqah : So far i think all good

Q : What did you like to do in the city for leisure purposes?

Jeannie : Wandering around the centre ville, strolling along the river at citadelle, visiting the market at Wazemme, jogging at parc vauban, etc.
Farah Syafiqah : Eat wok! Wandering around Lille, go window shopping at Euralille

Q : How did you find the locals in the city?

Jeannie : The locals are kind and open-minded.
Farah Syafiqah : Friendly! But the muslim community is quite ‘closed’ 😂

Q : Share your favourite memory in this city/your department.

Jeannie : My favorite memory in Lille is walking back from the bar at centre ville to the residence with my friends after missing the last métro at midnight.

Q : Where can you get halal food?

Jeannie : At a halal store near V2 Villeneuve D’ascq
Farah Syafiqah : Auchan/Boucherie called ‘Fruit d’Or’ in Villeneuve d’Ascq

Q : How do you find the teachers and the environment in your department

Jeannie : The professors are professional, kind, humorous, open-minded, and willing to help the international students

Q : How do you find the international student support in your department/école?

Jeannie : They are responsible and always willing to help the international students

Q : Describe the student life (Sports, night life, cultural events)

Jeannie : There are variety of bars in the centre ville where you can grab a drink every friday night! Besides, there are several events organised by the BDE such as gala, many kinds of soirées etc.

Q : How do you go to class?

Jeannie : 3 min walks.

Farah Syafiqah : Very nice!

Q : How do you find the international student support in your department/école?

Farah Syafiqah : Very supportive!! I had the chance to extend my residence’s contract thanks to them

Q : Describe the student life (Sports, night life, cultural events)

Farah Syafiqah : I’d say it depends on your course and department. As for mine, they really like soirées. Cultural events are organized frequently.
