Time and The Absurdity of Time

Last month, while I was wasting time, my brother got married. Honestly, that shocked me to the core. That can’t be right, it felt like just a week ago we were playing on our white PS1, now he’s already married. Where did all the time go? How come only yesterday, I felt like I had all the time in the world, but now I feel like I’m running out of time? Honestly, the concept of time is just straight up ridiculous. My Parasocial Bestfriend

My best friend sleeps for ten hours straight before he gets up to get ready for work. Later, he will rise from underneath the stage of an arena to perform for a crowd of hundreds of thousands of screaming fans in glitter and feather boas.

I know everything one ought to know about their best friend – from obvious things like his birthday and his favourite sports team to less obvious things like the running shoes he likes to wear and the brand of body wash he uses.

Of course I do, he’s my best friend. But he can’t really say the same thing about me: he doesn’t even know I exist.

Am I the Problem?

Dumbledore awarded 10 points to Gryffindor because Nevile Longbottom stood up his friends (though I don’t exactly agree on what he did) and everyone applauded him for it because Gryffindor eventually won the house cup. But, what if we don’t have a friend like Longbottom who points out problematic traits in a friend? What if we are only capable of filtering out toxic and non-toxic friends but mirror mirror on the wall doesn’t tell you that YOU are the toxic friend? It’s the painful truth, but I believe filtering your own bad traits does you, and others a great favour.
